Alonzo•27/28•Jellicle•
Family: Schwinn (brother)
Personality: The complete opposite from his brother, Alonzo’s life is full of order and control. He is both silent and tough, but he also has a passion for protecting those around him and beneath his harsh exterior, he really does care about those around him.
He isn’t the romanticized version of the strong and silent type, sure he as physical strength but he is not the kind of tom that you would want saving you, mainly because he is the awkward silent type, he doesn’t want to hear your praise or excuses why you got into trouble - just don’t do it again! He isn’t shy or anything, he just dislikes making conversation, especially small talk. He doesn’t want to hear about your day or how nice the weather has been lately, just get to the bloody point, or if there isn’t one - just stop talking. He doesn’t care that this kind of makes him a loner, he much prefers observing from a distance anyway, as per his training.
Alonzo will often walk around like he is the big man on campus, strutting around making sure there is no nonsense going on in his presence or his tribe. He has a desire to protect the members of his tribe from any and all danger, especially the threat that the other tribes possess. Since his mother’s death, and what he perceives as his brother’s defection, Alonzo has become very authorities and somewhat over protective of the members of his tribe, not wanting to suffer any more loss.
Unlike most, Alonzo prides himself on his ability to go unnoticed when desired, oddly enough, his black and white coat grants him the capacity to camouflage amongst the tall grass that surrounds the tribe’s territory. He finds it useful for when he is out on the prowl, either looking for prey or danger, or sometimes he even uses it to escape unwanted attention or to avoid talking to Jellicles. His somewhat bland personality contrasts with his fur coat, however when pushed he can demonstrate the desire to be at the centre of attention. He is most at ease when he is talking about the security of the Jellicle tribe or giving his latest status report to whoever will listen.
The one, if not only, unique thing about Alonzo does not reside in his physical appearance, but more in his brain development. You would never notice until it was pointed out, but some of the oddities in Alonzo’s behavior suggest that he has a mild form of autism, such as his regimented routine that he would never stray from, his lack of understanding sarcasm, and his literal interpretation of sayings. He also must do something’s a certain way, like touch his thumb to the tip of each finger on his left paw whenever he meets someone for the first time, and he will never step off a path to cut a corner or take a shortcut. All of these things seem normal to the tom, unaware that the impulses in his brain are being distorted from their original message.
History: Alonzo was the eldest of two sons by Bartle and Chenoa, his younger brother being Schwinn. From an early age, Alonzo had high expectations placed on his shoulders, especially from his father who sort to train him in the ways of becoming a protector of the tribe, to carry on the family legacy as such.
In the beginning, Alonzo begged his father to bring along his little brother, even if it was to just watch, he knew how much Schwinn wanted to be included, but in time Alonzo stopped asking, as he became consumed with his training and the life he was preparing for, something no doubt Schwinn noticed, as he became more and more reckless and wild, always getting into dangerous situations much to the frustration of their parents.
One day as Alonzo was out training with Bartle, he heard a commotion coming from the other side of the tribe’s territory. Naturally the tom was curious and wanted to investigate the hubbub, but was explicitly told to ignore it by his father. Training resumed as planned, pushing the noises out of his head, it wasn’t until one of the tribe members came running towards them, calling out their names, did Alonzo’s curiosity peak again. At first the other Jellicle seemed to ignore Alonzo, talking to Bartle in hushed whispers, both hands on his father’s shoulders. It was only when his father turned, tears in his eyes, to face him did the black and white tom completely understand what was going on. As he and his father ran to the scene of the accident, his first though was something terrible had finally happened to his brother, years of walking on a knife’s edge had finally caught up with the young tom. When he was Schwinn standing there, laughing hysterically over the dead body of their mother Alonzo was sure something had snapped in his brother’s mind, what else could explain such a reaction? The memory of the sound of that laugher still haunts Alonzo to this day.
Alonzo made sure he was there to comfort Schwinn, certain that he was in shock for witnessing the horrible event, but as his brother became more and more reckless Alonzo started to create distance between them. After the tragic death of his mother Alonzo became withdrawn from his family, he knew it wasn’t anyone’s fault but that didn’t stop him from placing the blame on both his father’s and brother’s shoulders. He blamed his father for not paying much attention to Schwinn, perhaps if he had been included in the training he wouldn’t be so eager to find danger and perhaps he could have been more careful around the road. Alonzo also partly blamed his brother, if only he had been more careful or not so ready to go out in search of danger and excitement. Schwinn suffered the most from Alonzo’s distancing, he still showed the young tom that he cared for him, but Alonzo barely interacted with him, for fear of finding out that the hysterical laughter was in fact the true nature of his brother.
Alonzo was less that thrilled to discover his brother’s defection to the Hench tribe, seeing it was an abandonment of their family; it also meant that Alonzo was no longer able to keep a close watch over his brother, less his reckless deeds got the better of him. When their father finally passed, Alonzo was sure to deal and bury him alone without his brother’s knowledge, he was desperate to avoid a repeat of the hysterical laughter. It was only afterwards did Alonzo inform Schwinn of Bartle’s passing, quick to get out of there, leaving his brother to mourn alone.
Now Alonzo spends his time patrolling the junkyard territory, often trying to spy his brother in the distance, but never daring to leave his tribe’s boundaries. He mostly keeps himself to himself, not wanting to engage in conversation or any “group activities”
