Personality:
Tugger has the reputation of being a heartbreaker, a flirt, obscene in his advances. He is a bit of an outcast to the older cats of the tribe, as many disapprove of his actions. And seems to be idolized by most of the rest of the Jellicles in the tribe, or a constant source of annoyance to the rest. He's a general menace to the tribe, with a cocky swagger and good looks to get him by. His curiosity is renown, as well as his outgoing sexual prowess. And while Tugger would agree that he's got a healthy dose of curiosity (What cat doesn't have that to some degree?) and he thinks himself outgoing and social, he finds the rest of his personality (as told by others): confusing, rubbish, or at the least amusing. The tribe has an unusual "set in stone" idea of him, that has spread to the streets. He has done nothing to correct the jellicles, and who'd believe him anyway? Tugger's reputation is just that, a reputation that others have of him, and by no means represents who he truly is.
He is also admittedly a heartbreaker, but not because he supposedly leads queens and toms on, on purpose, just to dump them after a good night of partying and sex. He is an attractive tom, Tugger knows this, and most of his admirers hit on him due to his appearance, or from what they misinterpret as interest on his part. Tugger has always done his best to let anyone with a crush on him down gently, but not all of them left in a good mood. He suspects a lot of his obscene bits of his reputation were spread by cats he turned down, that couldn't handle being turned down by 'The Tugger'. So to save face had spread around what the two got up to in bed, at least this is what Tugger suspects is what happened to get such a raunchy reputation that he now has. And while Tugger didn't help matters, by encouraging the rumors by not denying any of them. Who, in their right mind, would believe Tugger if he told them the truth...? That he was still a virgin. No one. The one and only time he attempted to tell Munkustrap that he had never had sex, the silver tabby laughed like Tugger had told a bad joke. Tugger has since taken on his reputation like a badge of honor, if nothing else.
In fact, Tugger is a virgin, and ironically is a bit of a prude when it comes to sex. He wants to be in love when he loses his virginity, and it has to be perfect. None of that outlandish, kinky one-night-stand, nonsense. Though Tugger will admit that his reputation is something of a shield for him. There are topics of discussion that he's inexperienced in or uncomfortable with and he'll turn to the flirty tom everyone thinks him to be, in order to save face. But his behavior tends to give off the wrong impression, over and over again, and has endlessly gotten him into trouble, as well as serve as an example that everything in his reputation is true. When he's talking with someone, whomever that may be, he gives them his full and utter attention. Where Tugger is trying to be polite in 'hanging on to their every word', others misinterpret his attention as lecherous, that he's sizing them up,...or for the more romantic souls; Tugger is staring soulfully into their eyes, an intense and electric connection. The fact that he is also quick to initiate physical contact, tends to pose a problem as well. Tugger does what comes naturally, and for him, providing comfort, meeting someone new, catching up with an old friend...anything, he'll address with touching. A hug, or a nuzzle, a paw on someone's shoulder.
Tugger is a kisser, as well. While he's not active sexually, he's still a fantastic kisser, though he supposes it depends on who you talk to. But he's the one who kisses family, and friends. He see's nothing wrong with it, and feels its just one more way to show trust, openness and caring for a friend or a family member. Of course, this is also misconstrued as inappropriate behavior. His eating habits are also condemned by jellicles who all around find his "type" distasteful. Tugger eats the way he's always eaten, slow, steady, and with a sensual undertone. It's the sensual eating that some of the others disapprove of, and think he does it on purpose. As a way of teasing any audience he may have. And while that isn't the case, no one believes that a tom can enjoy his food that much. He has been known to make a couple of the kittens faint, due to the way he eats his food. Even the little things tend to be seen as something they're not. Such as his smiles. They always are mistaken for a flirty pass, or some long sentence of conveying longing, interest and want, when in reality, it's just a simple "Hey" smile. His eyes tend to twinkle or spark when he finds something particularly amusing, but is mistaken for bedroom eyes and a sultry (if subtle) advance. And so on.
Tugger is a curious tom, and is one of the reasons he probably gets into as much trouble as he does. And while his curiosity isn't as bad as his so called flirting, it's at least true. Most believe it's his flirtatious nature that drives his curiosity, or fuels it. However, he's just like most cats when it comes to the curious side of things, he just supposes that his song, and his reputation have blown his curious prowl up a bit as well. He's not as indecisive as his song suggests, but it's not as though he can argue with it. It's as though having something happen to you one time, but it gets told and exaggerated as though it has happened to you all the time. This is pretty much how he feels when he or others sing his song during the Jellicle Ball. Tugger is also extremely social and outgoing. He's the first to strike up a conversation with anybody, he'll lend comfort or advice when it's needed, and tends to find any situation he gets caught up in as interesting. Always one to have fun, no matter where he is. He does sometimes get bothered by the fact that most of his behavior, if not all of it, is confused for something else. However, he doesn't let it appear on his face, and for the most part, he gets along just fine, even if he is misunderstood.

History:
The Rum Tum Tugger's birth was a surprise to his parents. Old Deuteronomy had started to find himself attracted to Cheetera a couple years after the birth of Munkustrap and the loss of his dear Desdemona. His birth wasn't planned, and though it was not unwelcome either, Tugger did feel (once he was old enough) that he was the "oppsies" child. He wasn't with his parents for long. While he was still very young, Cheetera's humans moved away. Cheetera couldn't take Tugger with her, and left him in Deuteronomy's care, while she went with her humans. He was left in the best of care, and Deuteronomy still speaks highly of his mother. However, when Tugger was about four, he really started asking questions concerning his mother, and where she was, why she gave him up. And as a child, he couldn't understand why his mother would choose humans over being with and raising her child. And like any normal child, he thought it was his fault.
While he did have two older brothers to lean on during his 'mother' issues; Fynn and Munkustrap were so much closer to each other then he was to either one of them. Instead of finding strength in the brotherly bonds that they had found in each other, he found that their differences served to keep them apart. And while his distance to Fynn and Munkustrap wasn't as pronounced and huge as his four year old mind processed, he didn't have the closeness to help him get over his mothers abandonment. Tugger was left to try and process the abandonment and his issues on his own. That is until he managed to befriend Gilbert. His friendship to the cream tom was what he needed and what he had been looking for and trying to get with Munkustrap and Fynn. Gilbert was his first friend, and in no time he had gotten over his 'mommy' issues because of it.
For several years, things were great between Tugger and Gilbert, Tugger and his brothers and Tugger and Deuteronomy. There were of course times when Tugger's curiosity got him into trouble. It was small things at first. Breaking into the dens of others, curious who lived there or what so-and-so was doing. He didn't become a problem until he had broken in and witnessed one of the older jellicles having sex. The jellicle had been embarrassed and after a long lecture from not just Deuteronomy but from both of his brothers, and forcing the young Tugger to apologize, he was left off with a warning. His behavior didn't improve, as his curiosity always won out over everything else. He was grounded multiple times by his father, and thus started (in his mind) the disappointed and disapproving looks of Munkustrap and Fynn. Because he was constantly getting into trouble as a child, and his kissing and other behavior was seen as flirting (and inappropriate for a kitten) his reputation among the tribe had already began to grow.
Despite new friends (Friends Tugger was positive only befriended him because of the way he looked), Tugger still considered Gilbert to be his best friend. However, when they had just turned 13, Gilbert wanted to see the world and made the choice to leave the tribe. At the time, Tugger had understood and even supported his friends decision. He said goodbye to his best friend, and later cried because he didn't think he'd ever see the tom again. Later that year, Tugger was in for something different in his life. Estelle, one of the older queens of the tribe, and a sexual predator that no one ever knew (or would ever find out about her) started taking an interest in Tugger. Tugger was too young and vulnerable after losing his best friend to identify any dangerous signs coming from Estelle. And the rest of the tribe saw and viewed her as a respectable older queen.
It was little things at first, but Estelle began touching Tugger inappropriately while he was still 13. Tugger, being a physically affectionate tom, and young and vulnerable, didn't know Estelle was doing something wrong. Just before Tugger had turned 14, Fynn had walked in on Tugger laying on top of Estelle, and had quickly ran to inform Deuteronomy. When Fynn had returned with Deuteronomy, Estelle had acted grateful to Fynn for coming in when he did and getting Tugger off her. She proceeded to tell Deuteronomy not to fault Tugger too much. He was a young curious tom interested in learning about the opposite sex; or sex in general. Being an older respected queen, and seen as helpless to the majority of the tribe, and because Tugger didn't deny it, Deuteronomy and Fynn were both inclined to believe her story of events. Due to being young, naive about sex, and having a growing reputation for a flirt and troublemaker, Tugger said nothing; scared no one would believe him, even if he did say something.
Deuteronomy had grounded him; and while the punishment was nothing new, Tugger and Deuteronomy had a gap in their relationship after that, that never improved. Though Tugger was still perplexed over the whole Estelle issue, and unsure what had been so terrible, Tugger himself got uncomfortable whenever Estelle seemed to show up in the yard. At first he figured it was just because she had gotten him into trouble, but soon he just didn't feel safe in the yard anymore. Tugger started venturing into the city soon after he turned 14. A part of him blamed Gilbert for not being there to help him, and a part of him searched for Gilbert when he took to the streets. Pretty soon, he was spending most of his days and nights on the streets, and once in a blue moon made an appearance at the yard. By the time Fynn died, when Tugger was 15, Tugger hadn't visited the yard or had any contact with his family for 5 months or so. But the death of Fynn brought him back to the yard.
The yard was still uncomfortable and a hostile environment, and with the death of his brother (despite not being close with Fynn) his brothers death had further tainted the yard for Tugger. He tried to comfort Munkustrap and Deuteronomy, but with his 5 or so month disappearance, his comfort was hollow and he eventually came to the conclusion that his presence was only making things worse. He once more took to the streets and decided to work through his brothers death on his own. It was around this time, that he met Gavin. Gavin seemed to be the answer to his grief, and the two became fast friends. Tugger didn't completely disappear on Deuteronomy and Munkustrap like he did the last time, but he did spend most of his time hanging out with Gavin. Gavin introduced him to other street cats, and eventually got Tugger to go to pubs and clubs with him. Tugger was Gavin's wingman and vice versa. For years, they were inseparable and Tugger came to rely and trust the older tom a lot.
At the age of 18, at the Jellicle Ball, that Tugger got to see Estelle get chosen for the heavyside layer. While he felt she didn't deserve that honor, he was relieved that she was gone and out of his life. With Estelle gone, Tugger once again started feeling that the junkyard was safe and was home. Being older, he realized what she had done to him, but he also realized that it had happened so long ago. With her no longer there, it seemed pointless to bring it up with anyone. This didn't stop Tugger from visiting the yard more frequently. In fact he was actually sleeping in the yard once more instead of somewhere in the streets or crashing at Gavin's place. He still balanced his time between the yard and his friends in the city. He didn't like the tom everyone thought or assumed he was, but didn't know how to act any other way, as everyone both in the yard and the streets expected this fictional Tugger when they talked with him. Tugger became his shield and donned the role of Tugger whenever he felt uncomfortable, needed a boost of confidence, for fun, or just because it was expected.
It was when he was 20, when he finally trusted Gavin enough to confide in him. Gavin was more like the tom everyone thought Tugger was, and while he didn't like his reputation, he did like Gavin and valued the tom's friendship. He told him what he was really like, and that he was a virgin. (Estelle was about the only thing he didn't tell Gavin) Gavin seemed to think it was a crime that he was still a virgin, and Tugger would have thought he was exaggerating, if what happened next, hadn't happened. However, Gavin took Tugger out, and Tugger didn't realize what Gavin was doing until it was too late. He had grabbed some poor unsuspecting queen to either have sex with Tugger or to show Tugger what he was missing. The queen hadn't wanted to have sex, and instead of letting her go like Tugger assumed Gavin would, Gavin held on tighter to the queen. Tugger had never been a fighter, and never really hung out with Fynn and Munkustrap to pick up any fighting moves. But seeing Gavin, the tom that was so like "The Rum Tum Tugger" and what the jellicles thought he was like, trying to force himself onto a queen; made Tugger see red.
He loathed Gavin for being a sleaze, loathed himself for never seeing it before then, and loathed the jellicles for thinking he was or could be anything like Gavin. Tugger rushed at Gavin, while the queen fought back as well. Gavin had been more surprised by Tugger's attack, then the queens, and had dropped his hold on her. She was able to get away in the ensuing confusion. Confused, frustrated and angry at his friend, Gavin had taken a few hits out on Tugger, including one last bash into the wall before Gavin had strutted away. The last hit had concussed Tugger, but the tom managed to stagger back to the junkyard. Luck was not on his side, and he ended up getting caught by Munkustrap once he stumbled into the yard, bloodied lip and dizzying steps. Tugger didn't think Munkustrap would believe him, and why would he? The two had never been close and he felt more distant with Munk since the death of Fynn. He easily slipped into his Tugger mask, and told Munk he had "Hit on the wrong queen" as an excuse. Never bothering to find out if Munk thought he was drunk or take in Munk's concerned face.
Slipping so easily into a tom similar to Gavin, made Tugger loathe himself a little bit that night. Since then, Tugger spends most of his time in the yard once more. Only going into the city when he's bored. Or if its necessary. Tugger has since adopted his reputation fully as his persona, even if he still really doesn't think he's like his reputation. But he didn't feel he could change. It'd be like not correcting someone who called you by someone else's name, and 18 years later they still think that's your name. No one would buy his 'new' personality, despite his new personality being his original personality. Tugger now uses "Rum Tum Tugger" as a title or badge of honor, and gets more amused by others misunderstanding him now. It is what it is and Tugger is determined to take what he can get. Even if that means being the sex crazed, heartbreaker, that no one takes seriously.
NOTE: Impey was planning on applying for Gilbert, but as I'm not sure if that's true anymore. I'm open to changing Gilbert to a different tom or queen. (I'll keep it Gilbert for now, since no one plays him, however)
