Family: Filligen (father) (mother is deceased) - OPEN
Personality: Colline isn’t the sort one would typically associate with the Hench tribe. He doesn’t quite want to be there, but situations being as they are, Colline doesn’t make much of a fuss. He has been called many names – spazz, glitch, nerd, goggles, – all of which, surprisingly, are accurate.
Colline is an inventor – a genius, really. Additionally, he has a photogenic memory. He is a tinkerer and makes (or attempts) to make anything and everything that could possibly pop into his fried little head. He often looks as if he is veritably insane with his wild mess of curly hair and larger than life eyes, but truthfully he is simply too smart for his own good and completely oblivious of it. Everything he does is with urgency, and telling him to “calm down” really doesn’t do any good. He can’t calm down because he doesn’t realize just how manic he really is. Colline often will go days at a time without eating properly or getting enough sleep due to his obsessive behavior and need to finish whatever it is he is working on, and for all of his “smarts,” he can’t seem to manage his time properly.
Despite being eccentric, Colline isn’t totally nuts, nor is he oblivious to his current situation with the Henches. His wide eyes and wild hair might point towards insanity, but he is extremely logical and aware. The posh accent that rolls from his mouth is hardly what anyone would expect when speaking with him, but really, in the general scope of things, Colline doesn’t fit any real bill. In other words, you can’t categorize him. His mind allows him to work fervently with hardly any care to his well being, but he can just as easily transform himself into a calm and refined fellow when he finds the time to be social. Nevertheless, he doesn’t socialize much with the henches, especially those that seem to fit the stereotypical hench description, and tends to let those brutes assume he’s off his rocker. With regards to those who seem approachable and less likely to bloody his nose, Colline is more willing to interrupt his work for them. When his eyes aren’t wide due to his brain constantly turning or lack of sleep, the waif of a tom has a pleasantness about him, and can be rather approachable. It all just depends on his load.
Colline is a kind tom. There is not one mean bone in his body. Every idea and every invention or code is designed under the assumption that it is going to help. That is all he wants to do. He wants to help – he wants to make the world (his world being the vastness of England) a better place. He was “hired” by Macavity under the assumption that he’d be able to work and create for the greater good; however, he is now more than aware that said “greater good” is to benefit Macavity (and Macavity only), not to mention help his ever expanding empire. Nevertheless, Colline keeps his mouth shut and works. He doesn’t want any trouble, never has and never will. He feels trapped and would love nothing more than a chance to leave, though he knows his disappearance wouldn’t go over well. For his own well being, Colline plays the part he is meant to play and keeps his head down, silently hoping for an escape.
History: Colline vaguely remembers his father, though he has no recollection of his mother. Every clue he has regarding his mother points to her dying during, or shortly after his birth. He has no clue whether or not he has any siblings either. His father, Filligen, raised him for a short amount of time, only long enough for Colline to memorize his name and appearance – the basics really. He remembers facial expressions and the basic tone of his father’s voice, but due to his young age, his memories aren’t extensive.
He has no clue what happened to his father; whether Filligen just up and left, if he died, nothing. He just knows that one day he was with his father, and the next, he was gone. Being hardly older than a toddler, there was little Colline could do for himself. His very first invention stemmed from the need to keep dry and remain hydrated at the same time. He took a few cardboard boxes, cut and bent a flap in the roof to allow rainfall to trickle through, but kept one side elevated so that the entire bottom of the box didn’t get soggy. Simple enough, yes, but clever for a kitten his age.
Colline lived like this for only a short amount of time. He was quickly taken off the streets by an older gentleman who had a habit of hoarding and collecting all sorts of items. On the outside, the man’s home was immaculate as was required by the housing society of such a wealthy neighborhood; however, the inside of the home (albeit not messy) was a hodgepodge of various items. Nothing was purposefully placed, and only a few items held any real purpose. It was the perfect playground for a kitten who loved nothing more than the keep his hands busy.
With access to as many items and trinkets he could ever want, and due to the fact his human was older and not physically active, Colline tinkered constantly. Paperclips and rubber bands became extremely handy, but as his need to “create” grew, he found his fingers itching for tools and items of more significance. Books became a rather large asset to him as well. His human had tons of them pilled around the house, ranging from fiction, to law, to math – anything anyone could ever think of. Naturally, most felines can’t read, but with nothing better to do, Colline picked up on enough words to get him through a book, and eventually learned how to read human words fairly well. This helped substantially with his need to create. If he had any questions, he’d scan the books and encyclopedias for an answer.
In his early teens, Colline’s human died. His human had no living relatives, and so the expensive flat was put up for auction, along with the excessive collection of items. Knowing he had no other choice but to leave, Colline made a makeshift pack and stuffed as many trinkets and books into the pack as possible before leaving. The inventor laid claim to an old abandoned building a couple of streets away and turned it into a makeshift workshop. It was at this point that he became a figure of interest.
Whether it was his daily routine of collecting “junk” that caught the attention of the henches, or the occasion loud noise and bright light that emitted from his building, Macavity had someone keep an eye on Colline. It was his own fault really for making such a scene, but at the time Colline was unaware to any potential danger. He had no clue who the Jellicles were or the Henches. Any contact he had with other felines was brief, and neither were brought up in conversation. So, when his building suddenly caught on fire, coincidentally when he happened to be away, Macavity’s offer for Colline to come live and work for him was simply a generous offer by a perfectly nice and respectable stranger.
Macavity provided Colline with whatever he wanted or needed in order to create. He met Colline’s enthusiasm with his own, and for a while, the young inventor remained oblivious to the severity of the situation he had walked blindly into. Requests became demands, and everything he created in hopes of being used for a good cause was used for anything but. Now he finds himself stuck. Colline desires to leave, but he doesn’t have a death wish. He knows what Macavity means when he tells a goon to “teach them a lesson,” and Colline prefers to avoid that. Still, he continues to work quietly, doing what he needs to do to remain in good graces – though ever looking quick and guaranteed escape.
Other Facts: Colline has horrid eyesight. He can anways been seen wearing glasses he crafted for himself, or a pair of goggles with lenses that help his eyes focus when he is working. To see him without one or the other is a rarity. As mentioned above, his accent is very posh and refined, as if he grew up within England's "high society." His accent often throws acquaintances off, due to his frazzled appearance.
Additionally, Colline is gay – 100%. He has no interest what-so-ever in queens. Any long-term partner of his will need to have a great deal of patience, but if he can be pried from his work, he is more than content to sleep around.
