Character Name: Mungojerrie
Age: 20s
Tribe Faction: Jellicles
Human Appearance:
Picture:
Family: Sister: Rumpelteazer
Personality:
Fun-loving: Mungojerrie is a lighthearted tom who loves any form of fun and games, just so long as it stays within the grounds of "innocent mischief" and "well-mannered frivolity." He is not at all malicious, and does not approve of cruel jesting or mean tricks. At least, not when it comes to other cats. Humans he's a little less worried about - he has no trouble himself with stealing from them even if he has no real reason to do so apart from his own enjoyment; and he really doesn't mind causing trouble for humans. Teazer is a help with holding him back in that area, and a good thing too - he might otherwise just go about knocking out windows or other such mean tricks just because.
Kind/Affectionate: Despite his thieving profession and his past involvement with Macavity, Jerrie has a good heart. He is very loving towards other cats overall, and to his sister and friends in the Junkyard especially. He would never purposely hurt anyone, except Macavity or a Hench - and then, only if he absolutely had to. If he finds out he has inadvertently hurt or done something to offend someone, he becomes very distraught and immediately seeks to make amends.
Protective: Mungojerrie is very protective of anyone close to him or anyone weaker than himself or otherwise in need. If you try to hurt his friends or his sister, beware: the wrath of the Mungojerrie will come upon you! (Couldn't resist. ) As one of the Jellicle protectors, he helps out Munkustrap and Alonzo as best he can, especially when they must defend the tribe from Macavity: he feels it especially his duty in that case.
Impulsive: Though goodhearted and well-intentioned, one of Jerrie's biggest problems is that he can tend not to think things through very well. He may set out to do something, thinking it will be helpful, when it really turns out to be harmful. This gets him into trouble with stealing, when he goes off and does something especially daring and gets caught; or even with protecting his friends, when he might rush off to save someone without thinking to gather others to help him.
Slightly Awkward: No, I don't mean he trips and falls down all the time - wouldn't make a good thief that way. He's more somewhat "socially" awkward. He has been most used to being with only his sister (for the most part) for a significant part of his life. Now, thrust into the life of the Jellicles, he's surrounded by cats most of the time - which he doesn't dislike, but he oftentimes doesn't know what to do with everyone! He wants to be kind and friendly, but sometimes doesn't quite know how. He's getting better at that, though. ^_^
History:
Adopted by humans at a young age, Jerrie has no memories of mother or father. The one thing in his life that has been constant, ever since he was born, is his twin sister Rumpelteazer, whom he adores and would do almost anything for. Though, as the tom and the older twin (he came out a few minutes before Teazer ), he likes to think of himself as the "leader" of their little thievery-team, the truth is that he more often has been influenced by his sister and followed her example than the other way round. It was Teazer who first poked him in the ribs, pointed at some boxes, and said, "Wot do you s'pose is in there...?" Thus their thievery began. They first stole from their own humans, who were filthy-rich, then gradually began stealing from anyone who happened to have things they might need or want. However, whereas Mungojerrie enjoyed stealing from humans for the sheer fun and thrill of the activity, Teazer showed him the snobbery of their humans and other rich folks, and the unfairness of it all, and embarked on a sort of "Robin-Hood Quest" to take things from the rich and leave them in poorer people's homes. (Of course, they still retained plenty of items for their own use and enjoyment.) Jerrie went along with this, more to please Teazer than anything. (He saw nothing wrong with stealing from humans just because; after all, they were humans! Not as if they were stealing from their own kind and family.)
The one significant instance in which Mungojerrie was the one to pull the twins into something was in dealings with Macavity and his gang. Jerrie, on one of the rare occasions when he was wandering about without his sister, bumped into Macavity on the streets. He (Jerrie) had just been stealing some fruit right out from under a shopkeeper's nose. Unbeknownst to him, Macavity had witnessed the theft, and stopped Jerrie on the streets to ask him several questions about what, how, and why he stole and what sorts of things he gained from it. Mungojerrie told him anything he wanted to know, not thinking anything of it. Macavity enticed Jerrie into agreeing to do "little errands" for him in exchange for generous rewards. Jerrie talked Teazer into joining in on the deal as well, convincing her that they could help even more poor humans this way. At first, the jobs were harmless enough - stealing things from stores and houses, nothing they hadn't been doing before. But then Macavity started making odd demands, especially ones having to do with a group of cats called the Jellicles. One of their most frequent jobs was to spy on the Junkyard and bring back pieces of information to Macavity. Finally, they realized that, though they didn't completely understand the situation or what Macavity wanted, his intentions were not good, and what they were doing was certainly not harmless. They broke off their deal with him, and joined the Jellicles soon after - they felt responsible for what information they had given Macavity, and felt the need to help protect the tribe from any possible harm they might have caused. They came clean and told the leaders everything. It took some doing, but they gradually have become accepted in the Jellicles despite their past - although some cats are still suspicious of them.
Now, for the most part, they live a nice double-life, going back and forth between the Junkyard and their humans' house, and continue on with stealing from the rich to give to the poor - or just stealing for fun and bringing presents back for themselves or their friends.
