Electra was far too curious for her own good. That, and ridiculously stubborn. Both weren’t ideal qualities to have, especially for someone who wanted a position wherein she’d have to follow directions and rules. Nevertheless, Electra had a thirst to prove herself, and what she had heard about Ghengis was far too juicy to simply forget about it. Besides, this was just what she needed. If she got the information she was looking for, then maybe Munkustrap would view her as an equal rather than his over zealous baby cousin that still required his protection.

She was going to be 18 soon, after all…. What better way to initiate adulthood then by getting some good intel?

Peering over her shoulder, the rust color queen made sure she wasn’t being followed. She had left the junkyard plenty of times, but she always grew a little paranoid when she knew she was doing something she shouldn’t. Heaven forbid she get caught now.

With a satisfied smirk, Electra pealed back the tear in the chain link fence, and quickly bounded down hill that led towards the paved sidewalk. This was the quickest and easiest way out of the yard’ and practically put her right in neutral territory. Granted, jellicle eyes could still be watching, but at this point, whatever she did was her business. Unless she was being threatened or rough housed by another cat in the area, she’d be left alone by any watching protector. There didn’t seem to be anyone around though…

Suited her just fine.

”I’ve got this…” she murmured to herself, her smirk still ever present. Munkustrap and the other protectors could wait as long as they wanted for more intel and rumors. Electra on the other hand figured the best approach to get answers was to go and look for them.

Sillabub frowned as she dragged her feet a long the cobblestone pavement. It wasn't fair, why was she still being treated like a child. She was sixteen, more than old enough to not be babied. She knew a lot of it had to do with the fact that the Hench Cats were worried of Macavity's wrath if anything were to happen to her, it would ruin his future plans for her, but still, she was entitled to some fun.

Admetus was off somewhere, probably down in the slums. She enjoyed it around there as well, and while she was still a bit cautious around that area she felt safer there because she was allowed to be herself without being judged and could really go to town if she so decided.

So lost in thought was she that she didn't realise exactly where her feet had carried her too. She started to notice that the scenery had changed, no longer was she surrounded by overflowing rubbish cans and grotty buildings, now she was passing by lush green grass and brighter colours.

The fleeting thought passed her mind that she had wandered into Jellicle territory, but she soon realised she was not quite there yet, but this was still an area that more Jellicles then Henches frequented. Slowing her pace she studied her surroundings, 'Yep, definitely not where I usually venture.' She thought to herself.

While many of the Henches enjoyed occasionally making their presence known in the area Sillabub had never actively participated in their many quests. Infact she had been pretty much kept away from this area her entire life, it wasn't to say she couldn't find her way around, it was just she never made it a point to have a run in with a Jellicle.

Suddenly her nose picked up a scent and she stopped, just up ahead of her was another cat, this wasn't expected. She wasn't sure whether she should keep walking so as to return home, or turn around and head back downtown. Was this cat a friend or foe?

As her eyes left the junkyard in finality, Electra turned and only took a few steps before she noticed another feline heading her way. Pausing, the rust colored queen’s tail whipped wildly behind her, and she stood on edge. Her green eyes cut skeptically at the other, not recognizing her markings as any one from the junkyard. Maybe someone just passing by? That was most likely the case; however, there was the off chance that this other was someone who wanted to start trouble.

Getting her bearings, Electra walked towards the other queen, eyes still cautiously watching her. From what she could tell by the other’s posture, she had also spotted Electra.

”Excuse me, mind telling me what your business is here?” She asked, stopping to stand only a few feet away from the new queen. Electra’s hands fell to her hips, and the rapid flicking of her tail was the only physical sign of her agitation. ”You have business with Deuteronomy or something? No one told me we were expecting a new face…” Truthfully, no one told her anything – not yet at least. She still had a few more months until she’d be an official protector, but the queen before her didn’t have to know that.

”If you’re lost kid, I can point ya’ in the right direction.” That was another option, but Electra wasn’t going to assume, not with this being a neutral territory.

Sillabub was frozen in place, she had definitely not intended to come face to face with any other cats, mentally berating herself she had to decide what to do. While she was in neutral territory it was widely accepted that this was more Jellicle territory then anything else.

She saw the rust coloured Queen begin to make her way towards where she was standing like a fool. Sillabub had been in many confrontations in her life and was able to handle herself with ease, but she hadn't wanted to draw attention to herself down here in this part of the city.

Glancing around unsure she tried to work out what her options were. But before she realised it though the Queen was stood right in front of her, hands on hips and in Sillabub's own words oozing authority, whether that was real or pretend she didn't care for much. She wasn't aware of how much the Jellicles knew of Macavity's life and her secret that had been closely guarded until only recently still made her weary of other cats intentions.

The Queen infront of her was a Jellicle, of that she was certain, but her markings, the colours, their was something so familiar in them that Sillabub shivered. She bristled up though when the Queen questioned her.

Sillabub bit her lip thoughtfully, she could go on the defensive or play the sweet innocent routine which she had perfected, she made up her mind. Looking at the ground and then glancing at the Queen with large eyes she gave a nervous smile, "I"m sorry, I was just walking and didn't realise where I ended up, I do apologise, I hope I haven't intruded on anything, this is neutral territory right?"

Sillabub then narrowed her eyes when the Queen called her a kid, if there was one thing she hated it was being called a kid, "And for your information I am not a kid, I am sick of everyone assuming that I am, but to even have strangers call me that." She huffed as she kicked her foot in the dirt, her tail matching the rust Queen infront of her and looking at her in the eyes.

Electra eyed Sillabub up and down with a scrutinizing gaze. The nervous smile and the submissive posture was more than enough to make Electra ease off; however, there was something she couldn’t pin point that made her remain on her toes for the time being – eyes hard and ears alert.

”It is. Though, this part of neutral territory boarders Jellicle territory. You have to tread lightly when you are this close to claimed property,” she said, her head bobbing back to motion to the fence bordering the junkyard. ”Reason I say this is because neutral or not, protectors and lookouts are constantly watching and stalking that fence.” Ever since Macavity’s attempt to abduct Deuteronomy and Demeter, precautions had been raised, and even the gentlest of Jellicles were on edge.

At the new queen’s sudden mood swing, Electra smirked and folded her arms over her chest. This pose made her seem less intimidating, but rather mocking.

”If you’re not a kid then, how old are you? You look younger than me, and I’ve always had the impression that you were a kid until the day you turned 18. Trust me, that’s a battle all strong willed teens have fought and lost.” She chuckled, lips still pealed back in a smirk. She knew what it was like to not be taken seriously. Hell, she experienced daily; however, she had finally come to the conclusion that if the other protectors wouldn’t consider her a colleague due to her age, then she’d just have to prove her worth to them. Hence the stalking off in the late evening…

”If I can’t call you kid, then what can I call you? I assume you’ve got a name, right?”

Sillabub nodded mutely as the Queen spoke to her, all she had to do was keep calm and she would be fine. She had never ventured towards the junkyard, Macavity had forbid it initially, she had soon worked out that her mother was a Jellicle and she assumed that he didn't want Sillabub finding her, but she never knew what she was told was true or not.

Looking back at the Queen Sillabub looked around and followed the Queens gaze up to the fence that signalled the Junkyard, she shivered, she had been allowed in the slums but not the Jellicle territory, she hoped she wouldn't get in trouble for this.

"I swear I didn't mean anything by it, I just lost track of time, I don't mean no harm to anyone." Sillabub said earnestly, well atleast that part was true, she hadn't come to cause trouble, she had just needed to get away from the warehouse for a bit, she didn't have any friends other than Admetus, who was her brother so he didn't really count, and he had been busy recently leaving her on her own.

She found herself chuckling when the Queen mentioned that trying not to be treated like a kid was a long waged battle, so this Queen got her a little bit. But drawing herself up Sillabub put a hand on her hip, "I'm 16, more than old enough to be classed as an adult, I think it depends on life experience and mentality then age." She said voicing more than she intended to.

"And yes, I'd rather not be called kid, I do take offence to that, everyone calls me kid, it gets so frustrating." She vented, she had a feeling that this Queen knew what she was going through, but there was also something else, something about this Queen she couldn't put her finger on.

Shaking her head to clear the train of thought she looked into the Queens eyes, "My name is Sillabub, and yours?" She asked.

So caught up in her wandering thoughts Sillabub didn't realise her mistake of telling the Jellicle queen her real name and what could possibly happen if she spread it around the tribe.

Electra sighed and shrugged her shoulders, hands raising in the universal sign of I don’t know. ”Sixteen or not, it is hard to convince anyone over the age of 20 that you’re on the same mental level as they are. Such is the status quo, you know. But, you’re preaching to the choir. I’m not 18 yet, so naturally, I still get treated as if I’m 5.” She smirked, sarcasm pouring off of her tongue. ”It is a battle we’re destined to lose…”

Electra would have offered a hand in greeting when the new queen introduced herself, but her training had taught her to keep her distance until a potential threat was either resolved, or determined to not be a risk. She was still unsure of Sillabub, and wasn’t quite ready to dismiss her guard. She doubted a sixteen year old queen who looked to have never done a hard days work in her life would be a threat, but you could never judge by appearances.

”My name is Electra.” She nodded, keeping her arms folded across her chest. ”Do you know someone around here or something? Related maybe? You kind of look like someone I know.” Electra tilted her head curiously, mentally trying to compare the similarities between Sillabub and Demeter. She wasn’t going to give Sillabub Demeter’s name, nor confirm the resemblance unless Sillabub mentioned the connection herself.

”Could just be a coincidence.”

Sillabub watched the Queens body language, she spent a lot of time watching how other cats behaved, it was a large part of survival, she could see the Queen still didn't have her full trust, and Sillabub was completely okay with that, she realised this Queen was smart. She could appreciate that.

Sillabub giggled at the Queens comment, covering her mouth quickly, that was something she hadn't done for a while. She rolled her eyesm "Great, so I have four more years before anyone starts to take me seriously? That's reassuring." She murmored the last part, but her green eyes sparked with laughter.

When the rust coloured Queen told Sillabub her name the calico Queen frowned a little bit, she'd heard that name before, but for the life of her couldn't remember where, something was still making her a bit weary around the Queen, who was she? But it was the next question that really caught Sillabub off guard.

Sillabub froze as the question registered, 'Related to someone around here?' 'Look like someone I know.'

Sillabub had to physically stop herself from taking a step backwards. She had never seen her mother in the flesh, and she was never really told what she looked like, she didn't even know her name, but Admetus and even Macavity had mentioned in passing and hushed conversations the resemblance that Sillabub apparently held to her mother, right down to the green eyes.

Sillabub found herself caught off guard, not something that she particularly enjoyed, she wasn't sure what to do. If she said she was related to someone, more questions would be asked, Macavity would be angry and all hell would probably break lose. If she said she wasn't she could keep her secret safe, but she would miss an opportunity to maybe find out more about herself.

The internal battled waged on for what seemed like hours but in reality was only a few seconds, she made her mind up, "Uh, no, not related, and uh, actually don't really know anyone around here, I don't know too many cats to be honest." She said a little fast while fidgeting with her collar. Normally she'd keep her cool but anything that had to do with her mother always made her edgy. And the second part was true, she really didn't know too many other cats, such was the way of life for a somewhat sheltered Queen.

Electra could see the hesitation in the younger queen’s eyes. She knew she had touched on an uncomfortable subject by bringing up the fact she looked similar to someone she knew. Sillabub was quick to recover though, and just as soon as her inward conflict became apparent, it disappeared.

”Oh…okay.” She said with a short nod, eyes looking her up and down cautiously. ”Must just be a coincidence then.” And it probably was. Electra had no reason to believe this queen was a close relative of Demeter’s, but who knew was sort of secrets the black and golden queen could have. Everyone who was affiliated with her father seemed to have some sort of dark secret. It was the tie that bound them…or whatever.

”Well, since you don’t know anyone around here, I’d suggest you get a move on before you meet some you don’t particularly want to get to know, if you catch my drift. My tribe is pretty decent, but there are a few wild ones that lurk around here as well. Best not be mixing with them.” Electra dropped her arms and walked around Sillabub, glancing over her shoulder as she spoke. ”I’ve got some business to attend too, otherwise I’d stay and chat.” She wouldn’t be surprised if Sillabub decided to follow her. Typically, cats without a tribe or humans tended to latch onto anyone willing to give them a second glance. Sillabub didn’t seem like the needy type, though, so maybe she’d accept the brief chat and continue on her way. Who knew.

”Nice to meet you though, Sillabub. The better part of town is north of here, that is if you want to stay out of trouble.” Electra winked, walking backwards momentarily so that she could face the other queen before turning to continue on her way.

Now Sillabub was more than curious about her mother, if even cats she had never met before were saying she looked similar it must be true. She knew she really didn't hold much of a resemblance to her father, apart from the scattered ginger in her fur she had to guess she got most of her appearance from her mother. This Queen might be the way to get to know her mother without seeking her out in person.

Chewing her lip nervously she watched as Electra studied her closely, Sillabub felt herself tensing, she had never really been near other cats around her age, most of the cats she was usually with were much older so being around someone her own age was a new experience.

Sillabub watched as the Queen began to walk away and Sillabub had another decision to make. Keep moping around the streets by herself, or possibly use this Queen to find out more about the Jellicle tribe, and in particular her mother.But she couldn't be to obvious, she'd have to be careful.

Not to mention the fact that if any of her fathers cats saw her in the streets with a jellicle none the less she was sure to be in trouble, she sometimes had trouble reading her fathers idea's and it made it hard for her to work out if what she was doing was good or bad. taking a deep breath she turned to the Queen, she just didn't want her to get the wrong idea, besides, depending where this other queen was going she could just go straight home if things got to awkward or if the other queen got suspicious.

"If you don't mind I might join you. Obviously I wandered to far and should start returning to where I came from, might be nice to have some company." She said still using her sweet voice. "Where are you headed? I could help you find your way, I know my way around pretty well."

While Electra hadn’t intended for Silla to follow her, she honestly wasn’t all that surprised. As Sillabub caught up to her, Electra turned her head to look at her, a mixture of curiosity and amusement piercing through her eyes. ” Where I am headed is my own business, and I am pretty sure it is not a place you’d want to go,” she said, kicking at a can on the sidewalk as they walked. ”but, I don’t mind the company for now. I’ll let you know when you need to go though…honestly, where I am going isn’t the place for any queen, really. Not even me. My mom and cousin would shit themselves if they knew where I was going…” Electra giggled, picturing Jenny and Munkustrap’s faces. She’d never hear the end of it if they knew. Heck, she might even loose every chance she had of becoming a protector, but, if she could get even a pinch of information, it would be worth it.

”So, you have humans or anything? If not, I’d suggest aligning yourself with a tribe, that way you have protection, you know? Territories and such.” Not many cats roamed the city streets without having humans or being affiliated with a tribe. Those that did rarely lasted long. By the looks of it, Silla was well kept, so she either had to have a human home or a tribe to go home to at the end of the day.

”I’ve never had humans, nor do I want them. I was born and raised in the Jellicle tribe, but they are really good to educate us on the surrounding territories and tribes. Some aren’t bad, but others I’d be glad to rid the streets of, if you know what I mean.” Electra wiggled her eyebrows and winked at Sillabub.

Sillabub frowned a little at Electra as she followed the Queen. She would be lying if she said she wasn't somewhat insulted at the implication she couldn't look after herself in certain area's, if only this queen knew where she liked to hang out. But keeping in check with her cover she swollowed down the annoyance and tilted her head in what she knew what an innocent way.

"Oh, that sounds exciting." She said smiling, though she honestly was holding back a smirk at the pride the Queen seemed to have in her voice at disobeying her mother and cousin. Sillabub didn't have anyone to disobey really, she frowned, unless of course Macavity found out she was with a Jellicle, ah well she would cross that bridge when she came to it.

Sillabub chewed her lip, she had to come up with a story, she didn't have humans, but she also couldn't tell Electra she was a Hench, and she WAS wearing a collar that she had stolen, and she was in good enough condition to pass as a house cat.

"Yeah I have humans." She muttered as she scuffed her ginger paws, "But I don't really spend much time there, I prefer to walk the streets, I'm not to worried about other cats, I know my way around, unless you know, I get carried away like today." She lied easily, but couldn't help but give a quick glance around at her surroundings in case anyone was listening.

When Electra mentioned that there were some she would be willing to do away with she almost had to force herself to not stop. Her mind started wandering. She knew that if the Jellicle's learnt who her father was she would become target uno and Heaviside knew what they would do to her, but what kept her sane was the fact that she knew her mother was a Jellicle so they might take pity on her, but she hated pity.

Sillabub found herself caught up in an internal discussion and had to snap herself out of it. She turned to Electra with a smile plastered on her face, "Well lead the way, I'm always up for exploring new places." She sighed inwardly, unless it was a place she was know, then she would be in shit.

Electra was glad the other queen had been given no reason to be wary of walking the streets alone. Most queens at their age had at least one bad encounter – there were more than enough alley ways and dark corners for perverts and street rats to hide. Electra typically didn’t go beyond neutral territory without having someone with her, but that was simply because she hadn’t wanted to chance loosing her current ranking by being overly zealous or end up well…dead.

Tonight though, she wasn’t thinking the worse. She was fueled with the hopes that she could find out something important and useful, and return with the knowledge that she had done what even the most qualified protectors were too afraid to do. If she succeeded, surely she’d be a shoe-in for the next protector.

”Hmmm…I figured as much. You don’t look beaten down and ragged like the typical street walker, so I thought you either had to have a tribe or humans to return to. Do your humans not care when you are gone for so long?” Electra had always been curious of how that all worked. Only a few jellicles had humans that she knew of, but they seemed to have a pattern to their coming and going.

”I think my mom had humans way back when…you know, before she had me. I don’t know though. She doesn’t talk about them. It was just something I had heard from another relative or something.” She waived her hand as if she was dismissing the thought all together and pushed her short, choppy bangs away from her eyes.

As they walked on, Electra glanced periodically at Sillabub, curiosity getting the best of her. Smirking, the rust color queen looked rather conspicuous. ”Are you out here looking for a boyfriend or something? That is all the queens our age in my tribe can ever talk about.”

Sillabub scuffed her paws along the ground with her head facing the ground. She could tell Electra had something on her mind, and the rust coloured Queen definitely had somewhere in mind, Sillabub really couldn't help but be curious. She looked up as Electra asked her about her humans and she had to inwardly groan as she had to quickly come up with another story.

"The humans don't care very much, I was taken in by a couple but they split up so the female is always at work so doesn't seem to realise how often I am gone, works out well for me." She came up with easily having heard something similar from another cat a while back.

Sillabub listened as Electra seemed to trail off talking about her mother and other relatives and Sillabub was shocked by the pang that went through her body at Electra mentioning her family, and her mother, Sillabub really hadn't realised how much she longed to meet her own until she was with someone near her own age.

Sighing Sillabub gave Electra a smirk, "A boyfriend? Noway, don't have time for that, been there, done that, more trouble then they are worth, and so clingy. I prefer being on my own, I've always been that way, and I really don't see it changing honestly." She said opening up a bit more then she was going to not realising it really didn't fit with the innocent and naive persona she had adopted. But her mind kept going back to Electra's last words.

"You've mentioned your mother and family a couple of times, are you close to your parents?" Sillabub couldn't help but ask curiously, almost shyly, she wasn't even searching for anything, she just wanted to know what it was like to have a family that seemed to care enough, or at least what having an actual mother was like.

Sillabubs only family that she knew of was her father and Admetus, and honestly they were both much older then her and she knew they didn't have all the time to spend with her, Admetus used to until she got older and she couldn't fault him for wanting to do some things on his own now that she was able to look after herself.

Electra smirked, finding herself surprised at how alike they were with regards to boyfriends and such. Electra herself found it silly. It didn’t mean she didn’t oppose it, but she wasn’t looking by any means. She really didn’t think she was compatible with many, after all, she wasn’t exactly what toms looked for in a queen, so hell, why should she make finding a “mate” a priority? If it happened, fine, if not, whatever.

”Exactly. I’m like you. I don’t want to be held down. If I ever do happen to fall into a relationship, he or she is going to have to give me my space, otherwise it isn’t going to work out. I don’t need a ball and chain dragging down my wings, so to speak.” She, as if to emphasize her point, jumped up to grab a low hanging branch mid-walk only to swing herself a few feet in front. She wasn’t in the least bit acrobatic, but she tended to have more upper body strength than most queens her age.

Electra shrugged in response to Sillabub’s question, idly picking at her hands to check for splinters. ” Fairly, I guess. I’m nothing like my mom, so we butt heads sometimes. I mean, I love her n’ all, we’re just different. I hung out more with my cousin growing up. He is head of the protectors of our tribe, so I guess he is who I have the most in common with,” she glanced up and brushed her hands against her hips as she walked, just to clear away any dirt that she might have missed.

”I’ve never met my dad. I know of him – he’s got quite the reputation.” She grinned again, eyeing Sillabub out of the corner of her eyes. ” I know I have a half brother, and have heard rumors of other possible half-siblings, but I’ve not met any of them. I was one of those oops kittens, you know? I wasn’t planned, and my parents never did love each other. I was the result of a moment of bad judgment.” It honestly didn’t bother her. She wanted to meet her dad simply just to say that she met him, but she didn’t feel as if she was lacking anything because of her broken family. Realistically though, most cats didn’t even know who their parents were.
