Personality:
Due to the pressure of being raised in high society, becoming a proper adult-someone his humans and his Uncle would be proud to be associated with, and the responsibility of looking after his younger sister, Mistoffelees found his own release and form of rebelliousness by lying. Oh it started off small, little things just to fit in. Because he quickly learned he didn't like most of the "fancy and rich" cats that lived in his neighborhood. And many of the others he did want to befriend quickly changed their minds when they learned where he was from. So he began lying, in order to fit in. His lying continued to grow, to continue fitting in and keeping his new friends. However, he enjoyed the rush of a convincing lie, and the steps he had to take to keep his rich background secret from his new found friends. His biggest lie to date, is his claim on being a mystic/magical cat. But it's now gotten to the point that if he ever came clean, it'd ruin everything for him.
He did get his fair share of attention in Bustopher's household, but Victoria was the one with added expectations placed upon her, due to her being a young healthy queen and an all white cat. Mistoffelees never put much care on the breed, quality, manners, or any other expectations humans tended to expect out of their pets; and as he wasn't doted on, save for simple pats on the head from time to time, Mistoffelees began to starve for attention he saw other cats get from their humans in the middle-class and poor neighborhoods. He had already delved into small lies here and there before he got a taste of what he had been missing. Affection that wasn't tapered off to what was 'appropriate' in their household, or withheld affection to ensure they didn't become spoiled and pampered. His need for attention went hand in hand with his lying. The more he lied about his past, or the day he had, the more attention he got. He is not a lover of negative attention, but if he's been depraved of attention and affection for too long, he will most certainly latch onto negative attention just as easily as he looks out for the positive feedback.
Mistoffelees is a social tom, and this is most likely Bustopher's influence. Bustopher is the cat about town, and knows how to charm his way from restaurant to restaurant, tribe to tribe. He of course didn't get along with Bustopher once he hit his teen years, but he was a teenaged boy, going through his rebellion phase. But Mistoffelees never was shy, and had spent years observing Bustopher's social gatherings and how outgoing his uncle was. Mistoffelees of course did keep up with proper grammar, and politically correct phrases, statements, and nouns. He did articulate, or make sure every word was correct. The groups he had been outgoing enough to make contact with would have no doubt beat him up for speaking in such a way. (He still knows how to be a gentleman, and speak correctly, those lessons are pounded into him too hard to forget.) Mistoffelees, learned to be more outgoing then what he had been comfortable with, when he began to develop his magic, and perform in the city.
In a big way, his cravings for the attention he wanted developed into this need inside him that he never knew existed. Mistoffelees needed to be unique. Well, in all truthfulness, he needed to be needed. He needed others to flock to him for aid, for comfort, for something. And in Misto's mind only those that were unique and rare, were the ones that got the attention, got the friends, got flocks of admiration, etc. And the best that he came up with and what Mistoffelees believes to be one of his most brilliant moments, was that he was a mystic in possession of magical powers. He had spent years weaving lie after lie, building up to that moment, and preparing to astound and back up his magical claims. It caused a lot of stir, even from within his own household. Mistoffelees has gone all out to convince others his powers are real. He's acted overwhelmed, and has purposely built gizmo's or bought/made certain concoctions(Designed to explode or eat through materials) within his human home, because what young mystic would know how to control their powers in the beginning. He has caused chaos quite often in his home, in order to "learn to control his abilities".
Mistoffelees has even created scenario's/more chaos within the city, where his magical talents would be needed to save the day. But in the midst of creating these events in order satisfy his desire to be needed, Mistoffelees found the chaos his "magic" both created and fixed was alluring. Presently, after years of such behavior, Mistoffelees enjoys the rush he gets when anything from punching someone in the middle of a party and watching events unfold, to pure panic erupting from an explosion mere feet away. He loves and is addicted to the chaos. If something exciting isn't happening, Mistoffelees gets bored. He will become miserable, and sometimes even gets tremors, as if he is going through withdrawal. He just can't cope with the mundane, the routine, and the ordinary. Chaos, Magic, Deception and lies are his drugs, and he needs his fix just like any junkie getting high in a dark alley.

History:
Mistoffelees was born first to Titania(Bustopher's sister) and her mate, in a very nice human house. He can recall his mother's face, and his fathers, and there are some memories that he still can look back on, but everything related to his parents, faces, memories; are more like a faded photograph then anything else. But memories with his parents were not meant to be. Shortly after Victoria was born and left at home with Mistoffelees, their parents and human owners were involved in a car accident and there were no survivors. Bustopher's humans had taken in Mistoffelees, and Victoria, and the two siblings were raised by their Uncle Bustopher. Under his care, both he and his sister received the finest upbringing. They received the best food, bedding, toys and luxuries that money could buy (from their wealthy humans and perhaps a little bit from Bustopher's many citywide connections).
While Victoria was lavished like a queen, due to her pristine white fur, Mistoffelees coped with the standoffish affection his humans were willing to give him, and in those moments spent more time with his Uncle. He'd travel with Bustopher through the high end fancy part of their neighborhood, and Misto quickly learned he didn't like being around the other cats there. Most were older, and nearly all of them were stuck up, superior snobs. His ritual walks in the neighborhood with his uncle started to stop. But on a whim, Mistoffelees snuck out and followed Bustopher when he went to one of the restaurants outside of their refined neighborhood. He didn't make any friends the first couple of times he conversed with cats roaming about in the streets.
But the moment he lied about where he lived, that rush of maybe getting caught in his lie, and the feeling of someone buying it, started him down a path that soon shaped him into the tom he is now. He continued to visit the middle class neighborhood, then the poor end of the city, and once (when he was older he braved the slums, though hasn't been back there in a while). When he was 18, Bustopher took him and Victoria to the junkyard to meet the jellicles. It was their second home, and Mistoffelees had an easier time adapting and fitting in with the jellicles, having prior experience with socializing with cats outside of his own comfort zone. That and he had been learning how to adapt through deception and lies steadily for years. Baby-stepping his way into the big leagues with his deception/lies.
It was a few short months after meeting the jellicles and learning that there were cats with abnormal abilities, that Mistoffelees got the brilliant idea to proclaim himself as a mystic. Much of it came from how he saw the deep respect the Jellicle Mystic's received simply for their gifts, and that those in need of such comfort and advice sought them out above all else. He made a big show of it, by having something explode during the night, at the junkyard. He had found this device that emitted light, and used it, just as the explosion occurred. Witnesses revealed that a beam of light had shot out of Misto's paw and caused the explosion. Thus his 'magical powers' manifested for the first time. He became popular overnight, and was encouraged to seek out the other Mystics, in order to control his abilities.
Mistoffelees still staged incidents, in many places. Mainly in the junkyard, on the way to the junkyard or in his household. But there's been a few restaurants and night clubs were he has staged magical incidents. At first it was to continue with the reputation of learning to control such a volatile power, but the attention and the pure rush he got from the Chaos it created had him causing these problems under the guise of something else. (Like the powerline getting knocked out, nothing to do with his "Magic") Just so he could watch things breakdown and unravel, only to save the day in the long-run. He knows that his deception of his magical abilities is reckless, and his behavior has bordered reckless as well. But he's finally having some fun, and he's been enjoying keeping the lie going. It's just been going so long he knows if the truth ever comes out, everything would be ruined for him.
It has been 3 years, and Mistoffelees is finally at that point where the others believe that he now has full control over his mystical abilities. And he proved as much in a big spectacular way. During the Jellicle ball, in the throng of Hench cat activity. He knew Tugger had already planned to sing about him during the ball, and it gave him time before the ball started to set up devices around the center of the yard for when he gave them a light show, and many of the other tricks he planned to do were with strategically placed and hidden mirrors, and illusionary-tricks that he learned on the streets from other cats.
He hadn't planned on Old Deuteronomy getting captured. But with the girls singing of the ginger tom, and then the Napolean of Crime crashing the ball himself and attacking the guardians. It all gave Misto ample time to make a deal with Keiiji. He is unaware of the tom's business relationship with Macavity, but he knew the tom's reputation, and was willing to be indebted to the Orange tabby. In order to bring Old Deuteronomy back under his "magic" thus really cementing his abilities for a long time to come. Mistoffelees was nervous that Keiiji wouldn't get to/find Deuteronomy in time or that he'd bail on their deal. But when the time came, Keiiji had found Deuteronomy tied up and blindfolded, blew some drug at Deuteronomy (and later Cassandra) to briefly disorientate them long enough to make them believe they were transported by Misto's magic and made the switch for Misto himself.
