Breed:Smoke Egyptian Mau
Family: Unknown. Purchased and raised by humans.
Personality: Ammon is relatively new to the Jellicle Tribe. It is not expected that many know him, but it doesn’t take multiple observations to realize that he is of no threat or harm. In fact, he is extremely pleasant. He is very inquisitive (much like a puppy), and is constantly on the move or looking for something to do. You’ll very rarely catch him lounging for an extended amount of time, or wasting away the day due to laziness. He is anything but lazy. However, when he does sit still, is usually for the benefit of another, or in the rare occasion that he is satisfied with what ever he is doing. Despite this, Ammon has an ease about him. He isn’t the sort that stresses you out simply by being within the same proximity of him. In fact, nothing he does seems rushed, nor does his activeness give off the impression that he is jittery or impatient. He is extremely composed and easy to be around, and does what he needs to do effortlessly.
For someone who has spent the majority of their life in the company of humans, Ammon isn’t socially awkward – not in the least bit. He isn’t the sort that talks simply to talk, but he enjoys company. He doesn’t vie for attention, and he is so soft spoken that he is hardly registered in a conversation including more than two souls, but Ammon is charismatic and not in the least bit afraid of meeting a new acquaintance. He isn’t overly expressive save for his large greenish-blue eyes, and has a very subtle sense of humor. He is the sort to smile or chuckle at his own joke, even when no one else gets it. Ammon is generally just a nice guy. He is not out to make a name for himself, nor does he care about the lime-light; he is just one of those rare genuine souls with nothing but good intentions.
Although he isn’t terribly young, Ammon is in what most consider their “prime” years. With only a handful of years behind him and hopefully many more to go, the Mau is extremely bright and well-rounded. He is what most consider “wise beyond his years,” which he contributes to his time simply observing the residence (both human and animal) of Egypt, and mapping the landscapes. He has witnessed much and has learned a great deal in his travels, and has learned to understand human activity far beyond the typical awareness of a house pet. Ammon is easy to confide in, though he does not give advice nor his opinion without being asked first - not unless he feels it is imperative to do so. In other words, he knows when to speak up, and when to keep his mouth closed. He is one of the rare few that thinks before he speaks, especially when a situation is dire, and cares little for the gossip and falsehoods that cause more harm than good.
Additionally, Ammon is level headed - though, that should be a given at this point. However, no one is perfect, and Ammon, while he strives to maintain a level head, is occasionally short, but fiercely tempered. By trial and error (especially dealing with the rift-raft and Egyptian cults of Tanta), Ammon has learned to keep his temper at bay for the most part. He’ll use techniques such as meditative breathing and low-toned humming to settle his roused nerves, and if you ever happen upon him when his jaw is clinched or his eyes are closed tensely, you’d probably be better off by simply walking away. Even if he isn’t upset at you and you have nothing to do with his bad mood, no matter the cause of his anger, he is likely to lash out if not approached with caution. If you happen to be in arm’s reach, then expect a painful experience. Anger and a gift for controlling heart rates isn’t a pretty mixture. Thankfully, Ammon isn’t some wild beast with no control over himself or his actions. He has had many years to work on this particular negativity, but the point is that even the most calm and collected folks can slip up every now and then, and Ammon is far from perfect. His intentions are good and his personality is inviting, and while you may never witness his “bad side,” it is there, and fair warning has been given.
History: Ammon has no recollection of his parents. It is obvious that his parents were Egyptian Maus like himself; however, a Mau is just as common as your everyday tabby cat in Egypt. There was never a point in looking for them, and Ammon was and is perfectly content with the life he has with his humans.
As hinted to above, Ammon was born in Tanta, Egypt, and to his knowledge, was adopted by his humans at birth or shortly after. His childhood was relatively normal, well, as normal as a life could be with missionaries as owners. His humans didn’t travel much, so Ammon remained primarily in Tanta, though his humans were out and about in the city on a regular basis. While Ammon didn’t necessarily explore the city with them, he learned about the city - both its charms and its negativities - through the stories and conversations they shared once they returned home in the evenings. It wasn’t until he was older (early teens) that Ammon decided to begin exploring the city for himself. He was enraptured by the tall buildings and palm trees, as well as the multitude of people and felines he happened to run into. While he always made it a point to return home before his humans, Ammon grew more comfortable with his explorations, and began to adventure farther and farther from their flat.
Ammon’s exploration of the city came to a halt shortly after his humans became pregnant. His female human, Emily, was having difficulties with her pregnancy – so much so that she was bed ridden. His male human stilled managed to work daily, and Ammon felt that it was his responsibility to stick around as company for Emily. He could sense that she was in a good deal of pain, and having no other way to show his support than simply being present, Ammon would sit or lay by her side, always touching her so that she knew he was there. At the time, he took her content smiles and relaxed features as her simply being grateful he remained with her; however, as the pregnancy continued, Ammon began to notice that his presence offered much more than just comfort to his human. He could hear and feel the substantial change in her heart rate once he touched her, and while it cause him no harm or affected him physically, Ammon knew his presence had something to do with it.
One evening, shortly after his male human returned home (and 2 months before her due date), Emily went into labor. Ammon was left in the flat while they rushed to the hospital, and it was only when Greg returned home that Ammon knew that the news wasn’t good. He found out through conversations and calls that Emily had lost the baby, and because her body had such a hard time adapting to the pregnancy, the likelihood of her ever getting pregnant again was slim. Ammon knew that this had crushed Emily, and so, when she was finally cleared to return home, he sat next to her anytime he sensed a spike in her emotions. Ammon knew he couldn’t take her and Greg’s pain away, but at least he could help soothe and calm their nerves on bad days.
Life went on, and soon his human’s job in Egypt had come to an end. With the upset of loosing the baby, the couple was ready to return to England with the hopes of starting fresh again. Naturally, Ammon went with them. It didn’t take the couple long to settle in their new flat in London, and once the transition had become less of a shock for Ammon, he returned to his normal routine of exploring the city.
London was completely different from Egpyt – he figured that out the second their plane landed. The heat was gone and replaced by chilly air and rain, two things the Egpytian born Mau cared little for. It took a while for him to acclimate himself to the climate change, but soon enough Ammon was learning the curves of the streets, and mapping out London just as he had mapped out Tanta.
During one of his outings, Ammon ran into The Rum Tum Tugger – Tugger for short, he learned. Tugger averted Ammon from a run in with some rough housing alley cats that could have easily turned into a bad situation, but with Tugger’s smooth tongue and Ammon’s obliviousness, the Mau played along with whatever the mane coon said. Fascinated with the Mau’s accent and history, Tugger gave him more attention then most, and stuck around long enough to get to know Ammon. Their friendship was an unlikely one, but after a while of random meet ups and “boys nights out,” Tugger asked Ammon if he had any interest in joining up with his “tribe.” Ammon had no clue what Tugger meant by “tribe”, but agreed to go with him to meet their leader and do a little tour of the yard. His customary visits became almost a daily routine, and with the hopes of acquiring more friendships with those of his own kind, he graciously accepted Deuteronomy’s offer of membership and protection. Although new to the tribe, word got around of his gift. Ammon found out that his “gift” became a strong fascination of the healers, and he agreed to be of service if ever needed, which gives him another reason to visit the yard regularly.
Powers(Optional): Although Ammon doesn’t know the origins of his power, and although he doesn’t know the full range of his gift, Ammon has come to believe that his ability is a form of telekinesis. Ammon can control the heart rate of another being, and either slow it down or speed it up. He can do so with a simple touch or glance, though he has found out that his gift works better with touch. His gift comes in handy for anyone experiencing a panic attack, a rise in blood pressure, or someone who just needs to calm down. In the same sense, although he isn’t an aggressive or vindictive tom, Ammon can speed up a heart rate and cause severe pain and discomfort. He doesn’t know if he is able to kill by speeding up the heart, but Ammon doesn’t care to find out.
Weaknesses(Optional): Ammon cannot use his gift on himself. He has never been able to control his own heart rate. Additionally, while his gift is helpful in the medical field, he can only sustain a heart beat for a period of time. Meaning, if someone is on their deathbed, or in surgery, Ammon’s powers can only keep them alive and stabilized for a short period of time. He cannot prevent death, nor can he bring back anyone that has already died.
